David (@drogersuk) is a mobile phone security expert who runs Copper Horse Ltd, a software and security company based in the UK. He is a Visiting Professor in Cyber Security & Digital Forensics at York St John University and also teaches the Mobile Systems Security course at the University of Oxford. David also serves as an Executive Board member of the IoT Security Foundation and as Chairman of the GSMA’s Device Security Group.

He is the former Head of Security for the Wholesale Applications Community (WAC) and previously headed up Panasonic Mobile’s Product Security and Customer Engineering in Europe. 

David has advised the UK Home Office and international law enforcement agencies on a number of mobile phone theft, security and forensic issues. He continues to champion the pioneering work in the mobile phone industry on embedded security within handsets. This work has led to widespread adoption of hardware security to protect security-sensitive applications such as m-payments.

Most recently he authored the UK’s ‘Code of Practice for Security in Consumer IoT Products and Associated Services’, in collaboration with DCMS, NCSC, ICO and industry colleagues.

David holds an MSc in Software Engineering from the University of Oxford and a HND in Mechatronics from the University of Teesside.

David is a regular judge in the security category of the Global Mobile Awards at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and has judged for the annual Small Cell Forum awards.
